Hello everyone, Manny here! In this series of beginners guides we tackle all you need to know about the game. In the previous guide we covered building focus.

Today we talk about the Academy and how you can handle your Technology Focus.

The Academy is a super important building for every aspect of the game. It contains secret parches and books with researches that power up your production, troops, immortals and city defences.

So much to do....Where to start?

Number one focus is "Production" Technology.

There are two critical technology upgrades in Production technology. "Speedy Construction" - Boosts your building construction speed, up to 30%.

"Rapid Progress" - Boosts your technology research speed, up to 30%.

Getting some early points in these will save you a lot of time, considering you will be building and researching alot of things for quite some time.

Along with these two bad boys, Production offers a vast array of technologies to boost your production buildings, your troop gathering speed, your troop gathering load, among others. The ones I mentioned are specially important because, like we covered in Guide nº1, resources are one of the central pieces of your growth.

Number two focus is "Troops" Technology.

Troop technology boost the base stats of each Troop tier.

In the images below you see Tier 1 and Tier 2 Spearmen and the difference in stats.

Each upgrade in Troop technology will increase these stats, allowing you to conquer certain tasks in game - like slaying gnomes, gnomes bosses, advancing in Well of Time - providing you with extra sources of resources, items, etc that will keep adding to your power. Keeping up with march power is very important.

Number three focus is "Immortals" Technology.

Immortal technology boost the base stats of each Immortal.

For example, Ferocious Warrior can give up to 100 physical attack for your Shieldmen Immortals. On the right image you can see a Shieldmen Immortal (level 40 , no equipment, no artifact) base stats. Please do consider that I already have tecnology upgrades (not maxed) so values may vary, depending on how far you are into your research.

(Observation: Your march power will result from your Troop Power plus Immortal Power. Keeping these two leveled at a good pace is the ideal scenario.)

Last, and not a priority, Defence Technology

Defence technology allows you to upgrade your city fortifications, increase your Wall stats and even reduce the damage your garrison takes.

My opinion is: Defending is important, don't get me wrong but there are so many others things that rank higher in the priority list that defence is just not going to be a thing for a long time. My advice is : upgrade your Defence technology until level 2 fortifications (comes in handy for some quests in events) and just "forget it" until you have maxed out Production, Troops and Immortals technology.

This is my own Defence tree. I am at level 40 for some time, sitting in at 1.07M Overall Power and 195k Main March Power (Water). I'm still working on Troops and Immortals technology, so Defence is not my priority for the time being, and I'm ok with that.

In the end, what you choose to focus on also depends on your playstyle and you need to adapt to it.

For the early game and for non-spenders, Production is the way to go.

If you are planning on being a big spender you might want to look into your offensive technologies faster, but you will also have the speedups to back you up.

TL DR;

Upgrade your Production tech fast so you can grow even faster. When you reach a good level of Production, start spreading your attention towards Troops and then Immortals. Getting into the Defence tree until you unlock level 2 fortifications is ok, but don't go much further until the rest is maxed. Hopefuly this guide can help new players starting their book reading the right way. Happy Researches!
